About Us

The committed pioneers, the Humanities Committee of the Georgia Medical Society (chaired by Dr. Caroline Williams), the Combined Public Health Services Committee (chaired by Mrs. Hunter Clay) and the United Way Health Council (chaired by Dr. Martha Fay), worked together to establish Hospice Savannah, Inc. as a community hospice in 1979 under the leadership of our first Executive Director, Mrs. Ann Stewart.

Dr. Williams became our first volunteer Medical Director. From humble beginnings in a small office in the Senior Citizens building on Bull Street, Hospice Savannah has grown to serve patients and their families throughout Chatham, Bryan, Effingham, Liberty, and Long counties.

  • Today, our administrative offices at 1674 Chatham Parkway house the homecare staff, administrative staff, the Hospice Savannah Foundation and the Steward Center for Palliative Care.
  • A homelike 28-bed inpatient Hospice House, located at 1352 Eisenhower Drive, is available to any Hospice Savannah patient for medical issues that cannot be handled at home and also provides respite for weary caregivers.
  • Full Circle, a Center for Education and Grief Support, is housed at 7212 Seawright Drive, and provides support to any grieving adult or child in the Coastal Empire at no charge.
  • Together, more than 250 volunteers and more than 200 full and part time staff are committed to fulfilling our mission “to provide the best services and resources for the community on dying, death, grief and loss.”
  • We are a member agency of the United Way of the Coastal Empire, National Hospice and Palliative Care Organization, and the Georgia Hospice and Palliative Care Organization. We are particularly proud to be accredited by the Joint Commission, one of the most prestigious quality reviews in American healthcare.
