Job Description:

Westmont Living, Inc., a premier provider of retirement living, assisted living and dementia care is opening a brand new community in Morgan Hill, California. We are seeking a seasoned professional to help bring this community from ground breaking to fully occupied.  Westmont Living, where people come first, is not about being big, but about being good.

Westmont Living, Inc. is comprised of passionate, experienced senior housing leaders who have formed a company that focuses on what matters: resident lifestyle, convenience and bringing service to the next level.  If this sounds different, it is.  Our new community is a "state of the art," 86 unit IL/AL/ALZ senior residence that will set the standard in the south San Jose market. 

LIFESTYLE DIRECTOR

 

  • Full-time responsibility to plan, direct, organize, conduct and evaluate events and planned Lifestyle services to promote rich living experiences for and meet the varied needs and interests of residents living within the community, promoting the Westmont Living philosophy. 
  • Develop and publish a monthly activities calendar and newsletter.
  • Conduct all planned activities
  • Encourage resident participation to develop and maintain residents' fullest potential through planned activities.
  • Interview new and existing residents to find their interests.  Document and develop programs that appeal to all residents.
  • Develop and maintain an arts and crafts department.
  • Cultivate leisure time activities such as games, puzzles, movies, etc.
  • Develop physical activities for exercise such as bowling, shuffleboard, aerobic classes, sittercize, kickball, etc.
  • Educate residents through classes or guest speakers in such subjects as travel, health, current events, and other self-help topics
  • Arrange for religious services in the community and/or coordinate transportation in order to meet the needs and interests of our residents.
  • Coordinate weekly schedules for outings to doctors, banking and shopping
  • Coordinate and conduct outside activities including scenic drives, luncheon and dinner outings, performing arts and cultural exhibits, etc.
  • Help to coordinate community special events open to families and friends such as Hawaiian Luaus, Bar-B-Q's, Christmas parties, etc.
  • Manage and monitor department budget.
  • Supervise, manage, train, coach and counsel the activities or driving staff.
  • Events and Activities shall promote and address the outcomes of "Successful Aging" philosophy to include physical and mental stimulation, spiritual needs, social engagement and life long learning.
  • Plans, directs and coordinates active volunteer program.  Develop and train a network of community and resident volunteers to assist in planning and preparation for activities and events. 
  • Provides new staff orientation in regards to the Lifestyle Program and on-going department specific training as required.
  • Assures compliance with regulations including staff training.
  • Routinely analyzes effectiveness and customer satisfaction of events and activities provided to ensure the activities are meeting the needs of the residents.
  • Department Manager participation in overall department director team duties
  • Document in the log book any significant incidents.
  • Perform all duties to exemplify and champion the Mission Statement
  • Perform Other duties as assigned

 QUALIFICATIONS, POSITION SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND REQUIREMENTS:

  • One year experience in conducting group activities and events.
  • Be knowledgeable in evaluating residents' needs
  • Must have criminal record clearance prior to initial presence in the community, have a health screening and TB test clearance not older than 6 months or received within 7 days of employment, and maintain current First Aid certification. 
  • High School diploma or equivalent, must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Demonstrable leadership skills, including the supervision of employees and training volunteers
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, with ability to publicly speak
  • Must have the ability to deal tactfully and diplomatically with others, whether involved with residents, their families or the public at large.
  • Highly organized approach to work
  • Flexible Working Hours due to demands of position
  • Positive attitude with abundant enthusiasm
  • On time regular attendance
  • Must obtain state certification where required and maintain by continuing to receive continued education credits. 
  • Must have a current Class B license
  • Must be available and able to travel for training, meetings, etc.
  • Must be comfortable working with seniors in a health care environment
  • Strong customer service skills
  • Basic knowledge of budgets and focused financial quality
  • Must have knowledge of state regulations, health laws and OSHA regulations
  • Intermediate computer and electronic file management skills
  • Strong organizational skills including ability to follow-up, detail-oriented, ability to multi-task.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Must exercise good judgment and make competent decisions.
  • Ability to organize, plan, coordinate and execute the operations of the community including strategic planning, resource allocation, leadership and coaching techniques.
  • Ability to work closely and cooperatively with the entire team.
