The National Contracting Manager assists Corporate Network Contracting leadership in all contracting activities for multi-market and enterprise-wide contracts.  In addition, the incumbent manages contract negotiations and contract execution process in order to meet medical expense reduction targets, and identities new contract opportunities that will improve profitability.

 

Essential Functions:


  • Takes ownership of multi-market and enterprise-wide contract negotiations in specific areas such as ancillary services, health systems and delegated vendors; ensures WellCare meets set financial targets

  • Engages with Health Analytics Department to value contracts and programs offered by potential vendors or providers

  • Partners with Legal Services on contract language negotiations with vendors and providers and oversees the contract execution process

  • Leads project teams for vendor selection and presents recommendations to the Director, National Contracting or directly to the National Contracting Council

  • Achieves company medical expense reduction targets through aggressive national ancillary contracting and risk contract management

  • Identifies potential new contracts, vendor relationships, or internal programs that will reduce medical expense and/or improve operating efficiency

  • Works in close collaboration with the market finance and network staff to evaluate and vet contract opportunities

  • Helps set yearly medical expense reduction targets for national contracting

  • Performs other duties as assigned or directed




Education:  A Bachelor's Degree in related field or equivalent directly related experience; a Master's Degree preferred.

 

Experience: 


  • 5 years of work experience in the healthcare sector (preferably at HMO or PPO)

  • 5 years experience in HMO provider/hospital/ancillary contracting and network development


Special Skills (e.g. 2nd language): 


  • Excellent influencing and negotiating skills

  • Ability to explain complicated financial terms and utilization data to physicians and staff

  • Excellent written skills and the ability to speak publicly are essential

  • Must be organized and have excellent time management capabilities

  • Strong leadership ability


Technical Skills/Requirements:  Proficient in Microsoft Office such as Excel, PowerPoint, Access, Word and Outlook; ability to analyze data in Excel to identify trends, and variance from goals
