Builds strategic relationships with key legislative and regulatory contacts in order to identify long-term business development opportunities for the organization. Focuses primarily on states where WellCare does not currently operate and will focus on all product lines including ABD, Medicare, Dual-SNP, Health Care Reform opportunities and Medicaid HMO expansion.

 

Essential Functions: 


  • Identifies, engages and manages relationships with key decision makers for legislatures and regulatory bodies to bring WellCare's business capabilities to their attention for solving critical healthcare problems in their states.

  • Develops thorough understanding of state business climate in order to provide suggestions and solutions across all product lines.

  • Actively drives new business development opportunities from infancy to engagement and educates broader Business Development team.

  • Establishes routine opportunity pipe line for routine mining and solutions beyond base Medicaid agreements.  Provides product diversification solutions to state customers.

  • Provides preview to expansion requirements and competitive landscape for solutions team.

  • Transitions new business opportunities to the RFI and RFP stage of development.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Education/Experience: 


  • A Bachelor's Degree in a related field, A Master's Degree preferred.

  • 7 years experience in revising existing and/or developing and implementing new business strategies with a focus on building relationships with key leaders within government health agencies and legislation.  

  • 5 years experience working in a managed care environment.


Special Skills (e.g. 2nd language): 


  • Excellent knowledge of provider networking, legislative and political landscape influences

  • Excellent knowledge of health plan operations

  • Ability to identify and build relationships with key leaders within government health agencies and legislation

  • Strong analytical, planning, organization and consulting skills

  • Proven leadership ability to manage multiple projects in a fast paced environment

  • Ability to work both strategically and tactical to accomplish objectives

  • Strong organizational and strategic planning skills 

  • Effective negotiator with often challenging community groups and government organizations on complex business issues


Technical Skills/Requirements:


 


Proficient in Microsoft Office such as Word, Powerpoint, Access, Excel and Outlook.
