The RN, Wound/Ostomy Specialist provides the nursing specialty of Enterostomal Therapy to patients with ostomies, fistulas, wounds, ulcers and continence problems. Assists in maintaining current knowledge and competence in the areas of ostomy care, draining wound fistula management, skin care and continence. Keeps abreast of changes and trends affecting nursing care and Enterostomal Therapy. Clinical expert to support staff advancement in clinical competencies and Enterostomal Therapy education.
Education: Must be a graduate of an approved school of professional nursing, who is currently licensed as a Registered Nurse by the State of California . A Bachelor's or Associate's degree in nursing from a program accredited by the National League of Nursing is highly preferred. A Public Health Nurse credential is desirable. Must hold certification as a Wound and Ostomy Care Nurse. Must possess a valid CPR certification. Bilingual abilities preferred.
Experience: Requires a minimum of a) one year acute care or home health experience as a professional nurse within the last 3 years or b) a baccalaureate degree in nursing from a program accredited by the National League of Nursing. Good knowledge of home health care principles and practices within the scope of palliative medicine. Familiarity with interpersonal dynamics operative within a health care team and knowledge of the dying and bereavement processes. Possess basic knowledge or aptitude to operate a computer, knowledge of basic software programs is preferred. Current California Driver's license and automobile insurance required.
