Job Description: 

Position Requirements: Current North Carolina license as a RN and current CPR Certification. Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Science degree in a healthcare field or equivalent administrative work experience in a healthcare agency with a minimum of 5 years healthcare experience. Three (3) years supervisory experience required. Understanding of disease process and ability to explain Hospice services and reimbursement issues. Demonstrates good nursing assessment and critical thinking skills. Demonstrates excellent communication skills, both oral and written. Ability to work well within an interdisciplinary team setting as well as independently with a minimum of supervision. Commitment to and understanding of the Hospice philosophy and thorough understanding of agency policies and procedures. Excellent organizational skills with the ability to handle a variety of tasks and to assign priorities to those tasks. Ability to work a flexible schedule.

Position Duties and Responsibilities: Supervise the day-to-day activities of the day nursing team, (RNs, LPNs and CNAs) to include personnel functions including hiring, interviewing, orienting/training, staffing, scheduling, evaluating and disciplinary actions. Coordinate the clinical operations of the KBR facility to insure an efficient and smooth transition to the day shift. Oversee day staffing schedule and make staffing adjustments as needed and indicated by acuity, census, and specific needs of patient care. Assume direct nursing responsibilities as a staff RN when indicated by staffing problems which cannot be corrected prior to beginning of shift. Educate and insure compliance with nursing staff regarding agency and departmental policies and procedures. Implement and assign Continuous Care for KBR patients as needed. Insure compliance with the North Carolina State Board of Nursing, Nurse Practice Act, Hospice Standards of Care, and all applicable regulatory agency standards. Participate in administrative on call responsibilities as staff resource and on call staff nurse. Participate in staff development activities that promote and maintain clinical competencies. Participate in the implementation and evaluation of the clinical orientation program with preceptors and the clinical education program. Conduct operational and/or educational meetings with staff as needed and as directed by the VP of KBR. Implement and support the hospice mission and philosophy, departmental and unit objectives, and all applicable policies and procedures. Participate in development of annual goals and objectives for the hospice inpatient facility. Maintain a safe working environment and provides ongoing feedback to staff regarding safe practices. Promote and maintain customer service expectations of patients, families, physicians and colleagues and insure that expectations are met or exceeded. Participate and monitor areas for performance improvement. Maintain a positive attitude and promote a climate for team building and peer support within the agency. Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor or CEO.
