Schedule: 8:00am - 5:00pm Shift: Days

Position Requirements: Masters Degree in Nursing. Licensed as a Nurse Practitioner with the North Carolina Board of Medicine and the North Carolina Board of Nursing. National certification required after January 1, 2000. Minimum of two (2) years' experience as a Nurse Practitioner preferred. Hospice and/or Hospital experience preferred. Certified in hospice and palliative medicine preferred. Knowledge and experience about the medical aspects of caring for terminally ill patients and the psychosocial impact of terminal disease on patients and families. Demonstrates excellent interpersonal communication skills, both oral and written. Ability to work well within an interdisciplinary team setting as well as independently. Excellent organizational skills with the ability to handle a variety of tasks and assign priorities to those tasks. Ability to work a flexible schedule.

Position Duties and Responsibilities: Provide medical care to patients, including but not limited to admissions, daily visits, chart review, QAPI and research activities in collaborative practice with the Medical Staff Services department. Participate in on-call rotation in conjunction with Medical Directors, Physicians and other Nurse Practitioners within the department. Assist the department in providing medical care for homecare patients and Comfort Care patients including, but not limited to consultation for attending physician of record or transfer of patient's care to the CMO. Work closely with and is available for all clinical staff, team leaders, directors, homecare nursing staff and KBR nursing staff to discuss patient care issues. Participate in the in-service education activities of staff as requested by the CMO/clinical staff. Work closely and assist the CMO in the development, promotion and provision of Palliative Care medical consultation services for non-hospice patients in hospitals, long term care facilities or homecare. Enhance professional growth and self-development through participation in professional activities, educational programs, current literature, in-service programs and workshops particularly as it applies to hospice patients and palliative care. Maintain Nurse Practitioner status by earning 50 hours of continuing education. Complete clinical documentation according to agency, state, federal and accreditation standards. Understand and adheres to Hospice policies and procedures and be an advocate of the Hospice philosophy. Assist with assessing clinical competencies as needed and as qualified to perform such competencies. Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor.
